Mentor Me
Mentor Me is an online training program that has been developed by Sydney Community College to help volunteer mentors in the Skilled Migrant Mentoring Program (SMMP) and the Refugee Mentoring Program (RMP).
The training has been funded by the Australian Flexible Learning Framework (http://www.flexiblelearning.net.au/) which is the is the e-learning strategy for the vocational education and training (VET) sector.
Mentor Me training is divided into sections and contains a range of activities including short answers, case studies and online questionnaires. It can be done at any time of the day or night and at a time to suit you. It does not have to be completed in one session.
In order to undertake the training you need to have your Program Coordinator enrol you in the course.
What do I need to do?
Once you have discussed the course with your Program Coordinator, you will need to follow the instructions for the online training which are included in the Learner Guide. The Learner Guide for the training is attached below.
In brief you will need to:
a) register with the Learning Management System (Moodle) by creating a new account.
b) enrol in the Mentor Me online training program – this will require using an enrolment key. The enrolment key will be given to you by your Program Coordinator.
Do I get a certificate?
The online course has been developed to align with “TAADEL403B – Facilitate Individual Learning”, which is a unit of competency from the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
All participants who undertake the training will receive a certificate. However there is and accredited and non-accredited option for the Online Training.
Non-Accredited
Learners who choose to do the training to simply extend their mentoring skills are asked to work independently through the materials and undertake the activities contained within the online program.
- Automated feedback is provided throughout the program for every activity.
- No facilitation is required for learners who choose this option.
- Learners who choose this option will receive a Certificate of Attendance.
- There is no cost for this option, the training is free.
Accredited
Learners who choose to undertake the program and wish to gain a Statement of Attainment for Facilitate Individual Learning (TAADEL404B) from the Certificate IV in Training and Assessment are required to:
- Complete all online activities
- Actively participate in the MentorMe Peer Support Network
- Conduct a mentoring relationship with one mentee.
The accredited option has a $199 fee for the mentor, to cover the cost of facilitation and assessment by a qualified trainer.

All volunteer mentors can also participate in our online mentor Peer Support network, which is a great way to make contact with other mentors and share ideas and information.
