FURTHER TRAINING AND EDUCATION
Why do I need more training?
Although you may already have excellent qualifications from overseas institutions, sometimes it can help to undertake study locally, especially if “bridging” courses are available to fill you in on local industry information that you are not aware of.
Enrolled participants may also be eligible for financial assistance to help with costs for accredited or industry recognised training courses offered by external providers.
GAP Training Scheme
If you locate a course that is accredited or industry recognised, and can be demonstrated to help you achieve employment that is appropriate for your skills, you can apply for financial assistance to help with the cost of the course.
The GAP Training Scheme offers up to $600 towards course costs for successful applicants. The funds will be refunded to the applicant at final completion of the course. Conditions apply – to find out more download the GAP Training Scheme application form, see below.
For Skilled Migrants
Skillmax
Skillmax is free for eligible permanent residents from non-English speaking backgrounds. Candidates must have overseas qualifications, be seeking work in their field of expertise and have an IELTS (International English Language Testing Score) of 6.5 or above.
The Skillmax course provides candidates with strategies to identify employment opportunities and knowledge on how to develop their career portfolio, including their résumé and written job applications, how to interview effectively and market themselves to prospective employers.
If you have not yet completed a NSW AMES Skillmax course, you may wish to find out more by contacting your local NSW AMES office at http://www.ames.edu.au/content/contactus.aspx
