PAST EVENTS

Skilled Migrant Mentoring Forum

In October 2010 Sydney Community College Program Coordinator for Liverpool and Fairfield, Fatima Kourouche coordinated the Skilled Migrant Mentoring Forum held at the Australian National Sports Centre at Punchbowl.

The Forum attended by 38 Skilled migrants from 6 different SMMP agencies across NSW, and 16 service providers, aimed to bring a number of government and non government agencies together to equip skilled migrants with useful information on how to register a business name and Australian Business Number (ABN), Centrelink support, GAP funding, Job interview skill, resume writing, public speaking, dressing appropriately for the job interview, turning a bright idea into a social enterprise and how to develop further skills through a TAFE pathway.

Among the organizations presenting at the forum include Adult Community Education, NSW Fair Trading, Australian Taxation Office, Centrelink, Adult Migrant Education Service, TAFE, Dress for Success, School of Social Enterprise, SQS and Toastmasters.

Skilled migrants gave positive feedback about the day as they gained a lot of valuable information that will be followed up by individual’s area of interest as well as by the various service providers to enhance services that target skilled migrants.
