Why do I need more training?
Although you may already have excellent qualifications from overseas institutions, sometimes it can help to undertake study locally, especially if “bridging” courses are available to fill you in on local industry information that you are not aware of.
As an enrolled participant in our Refugee Mentoring Program, you may also be eligible to claim financial assistance to help pay for the costs of an industry recognised or accredited training course.
The Refugee Mentoring Program offers a GAP Training Scheme where you can apply for up to $700 to be paid on your behalf to the training organisation offering a course that is relevant to your vocational background and jobseeking activities.

For Skilled Migrants
Sydney Community College may be able to enrol you in one of our accredited business courses for free if you are enrolled in our Refugee Mentoring Program. To view our business courses, go to our college website
Sydney Community College has a large business faculty providing accredited training in management, IT, training and assessment. If you are an enrolled participant of our Refugee Mentoring Program you may be eligible to enrol in some of our training for free.

Improving English Skills
Good English language skills will empower you to do well in Australia. They will help you to:
- increase your chances of getting a better job
- enable you to understand your rights at work
- check your pay and working conditions to make sure you are receiving your proper entitlements
- form relationships and friendships with colleagues.
If you would like to improve your English language skills, Sydney Community College provide English language courses for beginners, as well as training in Business English, Pronunciation and Communication. Click here to find out more. As an enrolled participant in our Refugee Mentoring Program you may be eligible to attend classes for free.
