The Skilled Migrant Mentoring Program (SMMP) aims to support skilled migrants who are unable to find employment in their area of expertise because they face specific barriers.
Barriers may include:
- Lack of knowledge about Australian job seeking processes and workplaces
- Lack of recognition of overseas qualifications
- Lack of local work experience.
The Skilled Migrant Mentoring Program aims to provide enrolled participants with opportunities to take part in
- At least 70 hours of UNPAID work experience related to client skills and/or
- At least 15 hours of mentoring by an industry based mentor and/or
- Relevant additional training through workshops and seminars or accredited training
Eligibility
To be eligible to enrol in the program you must meet ALL of the following requirements –
- you must be a skilled migrant or family reunion entrant to Australia
- have a first language other than English
- be a PERMANENT resident
- have arrived in Australia in the last FIVE years
- have English language skills at ISLPR 3 or above or IELTS 6.5 or above
- have a trade or professional qualification that has been RECOGNISED in Australia
- have completed or currently undertaking a NSW AMES Skillmax training course
- be committed to undertaking a minimum of 70 hours of unpaid work experience
- be committed to participate in at least 15 hours of mentoring with a volunteer mentor
