2010

In November the Skilled Migrant and Refugee Mentoring Programs were nominated for the Adult Learning Australia “Adult Learning Program of the Year” award.

Adult Learning Australia is the national peak body representing organisations and individuals in the adult learning field.

Program Coordinator Ursula Walker delivered a presentation “Workforce Training: the role of mentoring and non-formal education in achieving employment outcomes”, at the Annual National Conference, held in Adelaide, and College Principal Garry Traynor, accepted the award at the awards ceremony held at the conclusion of the conference, on November the 13th.




Sydney Community College’s Skilled Migrant Mentoring Program has been awarded a 2010 Diversity@Work Award for Employment & Inclusion of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Australians. You can find out more about Diversity@Work at http://diversityatwork.com.au/

The partnership between the College’s SMMP team and The Reed Group, a dynamic civil engineering and construction company, has been recognised for the significant success they have achieved together in providing work experience and employment opportunities to skilled migrant engineers.



2009

The College received the Perpetual Award for Business Innovation in 2009 from Community Colleges NSW and St.George Business Bank due to our professional and creative approach to delivery of SMMP in 2008.








One of the Refugee Mentoring Program volunteer mentors, Vera Palockovic, received an award from the Liverpool Volunteer Network for her outstanding volunteer work on Friday 19th March at Mounties Club.

The award was the 2009 Community Volunteer Award and Vera was nominated by Sydney Community College in recognition of the dedicated assistance Vera provided to one of our Refugee Mentoring Program participants, in offering support, guidance and training to assist her in entering into a course of tertiary education.
